Nancy Ohmart has 18 years of experience in the education field. She is a member of the NCHE, the NCSS, and is pursuing a more active role in the Missouri Council for the Social Studies as a board member. She has instructed 6th-8th grade students in American History and Government along with World History and Geography. For the last 10 years she has been the College Heights Middle School Mentor Teacher for incoming teachers. During that time she instructed teachers at Spring River Valley Conference Teachers’ Professional Development Days through classes labeled, “Utilizing Technology in your History Classroom," “Enticing your History Students with Hands-on Learning,” and “Reading Across Missouri.” Over the last two years she presented at the Missouri Council for Social Studies about “Missouri Teachers at Mt. Vernon” and “Utilizing the Junior Scholastic Reader within your History Classroom.” She has written lesson plans which are on-line at the Truman Library in Independence, Missouri and also several at Southwest Center for Educational Excellence in Webb City, Missouri through the 13 years of “Teaching American History Grants” she actively participated in. In 2013, she was honored as the “Teacher of the Month” at Pittsburg State University, in Pittsburg, Kansas. In 2014 she was awarded the Joplin Chamber of Commerce prestigious educational award called the “Golden Apple Teacher Award.” She truly has a passion for her subject and her students and loves helping the students see connections from the past to their lives today and their future tomorrow.
